As in most rural areas, community leaders seldom have local opportunities to enhance their knowledge in a way that will prevent child abuse. Although a very effective State-wide domestic violence awareness campaign is underway, specific education for community leaders is not available in this region.  The significant association between domestic violence and child abuse means that many opportunities for risk assessment and safety planning are being lost, due to inadequate community awareness.   The Foundation will work to enhance community leader knowledge regarding domestic violence, child abuse, and child abuse prevention through a series of two child abuse prevention community leader summits, annually.  As part of these summits, community leaders will be surveyed for input on current and conceptual strategies for child abuse prevention and this information will be provided to the North Central Nebraska Child Abuse Prevention Project (NCNCAPP).
